Silvia’s story…

When I was a child my dream was to write and illustrate stories. I loved Disney, Roald Dahl, Tolkien and J.K. Rowling. I dreamed I would one day be able to invent and develop stories like them with amazing characters that we’ve all grown up to love.

Time passed, I grew up, and even though I kept writing and drawing, I convinced myself that my dreams were just a childhood fantasy. I decided to study business and specialised in marketing, going on to work for multinational companies for over 8 years.

On the way I met the most amazing guy and fell in love. And one day (some years later) I became a Mum… ‘M’, my daughter, changed my life forever. Becoming a Mum made me question a lot about my life, what I wanted to teach to her, how to make her happy… and at one point I thought that in order to make her happy, I had to be truly happy myself… and I knew something inside was telling me to pursue my dream: to write and illustrate children’s stories. I had to at least try it, don’t we all want our children to follow their dreams? I was determined to set an example for her, and if it didn’t work out, at least I would have no regrets.

So one day I was introduced to Mum & You and I loved it. The idea of a group of Mums designing and creating products to help new Mums was lovely. Finding solutions for the problems we faced at our early stages of parenting and beyond sounded fantastic. I had to join the team!

I was introduced to the nappychat concept and as a Mum I totally fell in love with it. Let me share with you the idea behind it…

The nappy changing moment is one of those moments during the day that offers a great chance to bond with your baby, you are face-to-face, singing or talking, touching their skin, and kissing and tickling them while searching for a smile or a giggle. At Mum & You, we are firm believers that talking and sharing with your babies is key for their development, building brain connections, improving language skills and bonding. The reality is that as a Mum you can spend so many hours alone with your baby that sometimes you run out of things to talk about.

Talking about what you’re doing; ‘I’m putting on some cream and finding a new nappy’ is great and your baby doesn’t really mind what you’re saying. But it can become a little repetitive as you’re on your 50th change of the month! You can use chatting or singing to spark your baby’s imagination…and yours too.

Here’s where our friendly tribe of nappychat characters that feature on every Mum & You nappy come in! They might inspire you to invent and tell stories to your little one at changing time, and if you sign up to a monthly subscription bundle, you get free flashcards with poems and stories to help you out.

Exciting news!

As you may have heard, the nappychat app is about to come out, packed full of rhymes, stories and poems based on our characters. The more you read about them, the more you’ll get to know them and then you can make up stories of your own. Our aim is to give you tools to talk to your baby, stories to read, ideas for songs or rhymes, and even some activities for you to do together. Honestly, as a new Mum, any ideas are welcome, because we don’t know what we are doing, but we do it the best way we can.

So I’m one of the authors and illustrators behind the stories and rhymes you will find on the nappychat app. I really hope you will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed working on them. Here is just a sneak peak at one of the rhymes we’ve worked on. We really hope you love it!
