Happy plastic free July!

Happy plastic free July!

Plastic Free July is a global movement to be part of the solution to plastic pollution.

This month is all about those little changes we can make to our lifestyles to reduce our plastic. And we say little for a reason. At Mum & You, we believe every effort is better than none, and from our own experience, we know that whether it’s tackling plastic use, a change to our diet, our baby’s routine, or anything disruptive to life as we know it, that we are setting ourselves up to fail if perfection is our only measurement of success.

Baby wipes that contain plastic are said to be banned by the government by next year. This makes it the best time to switch to plastic free baby wipes!

Mum & You baby wipes are made from sustainably sourced, naturally derived viscose - a special material made from the most abundant and renewable wood fibre on Earth. They are plastic-free and contain 99.4% water to ensure ultimate kindness to baby’s skin.

Did you know that Mum & You baby wipes disintegrate faster than an apple core? Yep, we tested it! Our lab tests show that Mum & You biodegradable baby wipes disintegrate in only 3 days, compared to an apple core which took 7 days in simulated landfill conditions**. They're compostable too!

Our 100% recyclable packaging can be recycled with soft plastics at your local supermarket.

Our Mum & You Eco-nappies are made using chlorine-free wood pulp from PEFC certified sustainable forestry, and our packaging is 100% recyclable and contains 30% recycled content. Production is Carbon Neutral, and all our eco-nappies and eco nappy pants are EU Ecolabel certified. Packs are recyclable with carrier bags at larger stores such as supermarkets.

Mum & You Floosh! moist toilet tissue has been designed to break down when you flush it and is certified as Fine to Flush by Water UK.
Fine to Flush accreditation is a major development in the fight against fatbergs. It's an industry standard developed by Water UK called Water Industry Specification (WIS) 4-02-06; and identifies which wet wipes can be flushed down toilets safely.

It ensures that Mum & You Floosh! can go down the drain and round the U bend without getting stuck or blocking sewers. The accreditation also ensures that the wipes disintegrate just like toilet paper as well as ensuring the wipes are 100% plastic free, so they won't break down into microplastics or pollute our oceans & beaches.

By supporting us with your purchases, or simply spreading the word of what we do, we can improve faster and better. We pour time and effort into researching plastic-free alternatives for our products every day.

So, support us in our journey, and in turn we’ll keep trying to do our best. Because your best is always better than nothing.

With love and thanks,

M&Y x

*Wipes are compostable according to European Standards EN13432 and are certified by TÜV Austria as OK compost Home.

** Test method ASTM D5511
