Flushable vs biodegradable – what’s the difference?

Flushable vs biodegradable – what’s the difference?

Baby wipes. Love them or hate them, there’s no denying their convenience. Unfortunately, there’s no denying their impact on the environment either, which is why they’ve been highlighted as one of the leaders in plastic pollution.

But it’s not all bad news! Mum & You baby wipes have always, and will always be, 100% biodegradable* and contain zero plastic, zero chemicals and are made from 99.4% water, so they’re gentle on even newborn bottoms.

And with the news that the government could be banning all non-biodegradable wipes means there’s never been a better time to switch to Mum & You.

Can wipes be flushed?

Currently, some wipes on the market claim to be flushable but may still contain plastic, meaning that when they break down they will release a surge of microplastics into our rivers and oceans, which creates issues for marine life and pollutes natural environments.

It’s important to look for the Fine to Flush certification which tests flushable wipes to ensure that they don’t contain plastic and will disperse just like toilet paper to not clog your toilet u-bend or cause fatbergs in our sewers.

Mum & You Floosh! flushable moist toilet wipes are 100% flushable (certified Fine to Flush by Water UK) and have passed the UK water industry specification 4-02-06. This means they have been rigorously tested to ensure they disintegrate in a timely manner and therefore do not contribute to blockages or fatbergs.

How to dispose of baby wipes

Biodegradable baby wipes are designed to be thrown away (not flushed) with your usual household waste or composted.

The other great thing about our award winning Mum & You biodegradable baby wipes is that they are strong. There’s no falling apart while you use them, and our extra-long design means they go that bit further. Plus, our baby wipes also come in 100% recyclable packaging.

Oh, and here’s what else we’re doing:

  • Our nappy packaging is made from 30% recycled content and is 100% recyclable.
  • Our eco-nappies are made using a biodegradable wood-pulp core. We also use less of this material than other brands, meaning we need to cut down fewer trees.
  • We only use wood pulp from sustainable forestry and we are PEFC certified.
  • For every new product we launch, we research ways to reduce the amount of plastic needed, and we are committed to working towards as many of our products being plastic-free as possible.

So why not make the switch to Mum & You biodegradable, plastic-free baby wipes and have them conveniently delivered to your door?
